The Czech Heritage Club is inviting all club members and the public to its April program and annual meeting on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Giesenbrau Bier Co., 1306 – 1st St NE in New Prague.

According to the Belle Plaine Police Department on Wednesday, April 13, Belle Plaine Police Officers were called to the 100 block of West Main Street for a male threatening to commit suicide. Upon arrival of police, the male subject ran towards the area of the Belle Plaine schools creating a procedural lockdown for the school district. The Minnesota State Patrol, Scott County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Belle Plaine Police Department patrolled the exterior of all schools while searching for the subject.

After two years of cancellations due to the covid pandemic, crowns and kroj were back at the 33rd annual Miss Czech Slovak Minnesota Pageant on Saturday in Montgomery. At Elko New Market’s first in person Easter Egg Hunt since 2019 there was a large crowd of children and parents on Saturday, April 9. Held at Eagle View Elementary School’s playground area an early rough estimate of 300 people participated in the hunt for colorful eggs, plus golden eggs that could be turned in for toy prizes. Three young women will compete in the 33rd annual Miss Czech Slovak Minnesota Pageant on Saturday, April 9, at the Montgomery American Legion Club.
The candidates are: Sarah Holicky of Montgomery, Hailie Wentworth of St. Peter, and Marisa Winget of Northfield.
The candidates will compete in categories of talent, ethnic folk dress, on-stage interview, poise and appearance, as well as private interviews. The candidates must be of Czech, Slovak or Moravian descent.

Easter for Kids at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 2, provided fun and faith for 17 children. The 13th annual day of crafts, the Easter Bible story and activities at the church west of New Prague was one where children smiled, laughed and enjoyed themselves.
The 17 children thatparticipated were from age 4 to those in fourth grade. They could decorate cookies with various colored frosting and sprinkles, color eggs, make art with the message “He is risen,” take part in an Easter egg hunt and play games. The group was...

The New Prague Firemen’s Dance & Drill was back on Saturday, April 2, and the New Prague Fire Department Drill Team delighted the crowd with their precision marching.
“The dance went very well. We had a nice crowd and the drill went great,” said New Prague Fire Chief Steve Rynda.

On Monday, April 4, the New Prague City Council unanimously approved the demolition of the New Prague Outdoor Swimming Pool at 401 Lexington Ave. S. Work on the pool and building began that same week. Deutsch Construction of New Prague was approved with the lowest bid of $64,350. Funding for the project will come out of the city’s 499 account. The Waterville Fire Department was called to a fire at The Funky Munkey restaurant in Waterville early Saturday morning, March 26. According to a firefighter at the scene, the call was made at approximately 3 a.m.
People in the nearby apartments were evacuated.
Elysian Fire, Madison Lake Fire, Morristown Fire, Waseca Fire, Janesville Fire, Faribault Fire, Le Center Fire, Kilkenny Fire, and New Richland Fire were called to assist and helped extinguish the fire.
There have been no reports of injury.

St. Wenceslaus Catholic School seventh and eighth graders spent Thursday night, March 17, sleeping outside in cardboard boxes to experience homelessness first-hand, to raise awareness of homelessness, learn the circumstances that often lead to homelessness, and raise money to benefit organizations that help alleviate homelessness.
According to St. Wenc teacher Jill McBroom, who helped organize the event, 42 students participated in the project, with 40 of the students spending the night outside.

New Prague VFW Post 5145 recently announced the winner and three honorable mentions for its essay contest. The participants are all students in Jill Bailey's seventh grade class and the essay theme was “How can I be a good American?” Orelia Slavik won the local contest and Annie Blaschko, Daniel Erickson, and Bella Web received honorable mention. Each of them will receive $30.

Le Sueur County has a handful of roadway projects scheduled for 2022 which may limit travel to county roads.
In the northern-most portion of the county there will be a resurfacing project on the east side of New Prague.
The project is set to resurface one mile of County State Aide Highway 3 (141st Ave.) between CSAH 20 and State Highway 19. There will be Stabilized Full Depth Reclamation, bituminous paving, and aggregate shouldering.
The project is currently being advertised and the contractor is unknown. The start-up time will be late spring to early summer.

Kevin Crawford who owned and operated Crawford’s Standard Services, 126 Main St. E, in New Prague for 40 years is retiring and closed the auto repair business on Friday, March 25. New Prague High School for its spring play will perform the classic production “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder. Show times are Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium, 221 12th St. NE.

The New Prague School Board at its Monday, March 14, work session was updated about its three-step action plan that is in response to allegations of racial taunts at sporting events. Director of Educational Services Tony Buthe and District Equity Coordinator Termaine Fulton presented the information.

The St. Wenceslaus Catholic School’s All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry on Friday, March 11, had a good catch in attendance as volunteers served 1,600 meals. Volunteers helping cook the fish, cheesy potatoes and preparing the meals were kept busy. The evening meal had crowds lined up down the hall of one part of the Parish Activity Center (PAC) to get into the PAC’s gym. While many prepaid there were those who waited to pay at the door.
