Le Sueur County Fair set for 169th year
One of the longest running Minnesota County Fairs is celebrating its 169th year next week.
The New Prague High School girls' volleyball team will face Lakeville North Saturday Nov. 4, 4 p.m., at Rochester's Mayo Civic Center, for a berth to the state tournament representing Section 1AAAA.
Paul Kartak, age 64, passed away in his sleep on October 27, 2023, at his home in Arlington, Texas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, often out chasing waterfowl with his faithful canine companion. Having grown up in New Prague he was a loyal fan of all New Prague sports and enjoyed following the Golden Gopher football team. Paul enjoyed playing broomball with a great group of friends. He was retired from the US Navy as a Master Chief in Aircraft Maintenance. Preceded in death by parents George and Ruth Anne Kartak and brother Bill Kartak.
Gail M. Giesen, age 61, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Gail was born on June 11, 1962, in New Prague to Gerald and Lidwina (Huss) Giesen. She graduated from New Prague High School and went on to accomplish a degree in Culinary Arts from St. Cloud Technical School. Gail loved her job as a cook with numerous restaurants, her favorites being Clemmer's/Fishtale Bar & Grill and cooking for The Villages in Lonsdale.

Gladys Cecelia Douda, age 93, of Lonsdale, died October 26, 2023, at Northfield Hospital, Northfield, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lonsdale on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Father VanDenBroeke will officiate. Interment will be held at Calvary Hill Cemetery, Lonsdale, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
They have done something 9.86 million or so people do each year, visit at least one of Minnesota’s state parks. But four women have been to all of them, and along the way, they enjoyed memories they’ll likely cherish the rest of their lives.
City council wrestles with plans for possible future building
During the New Prague City Council's Tuesday, Oct. 3, workshop on its 2024 budget, councilors considered the future of a possible new building for the city's police department.
In previous discussions, the council considered passing on working on a new building, but city staff didn't want to take discussion of the building completely off the table.

New Prague gets rematch with Raiders
With the regular season and a big win over St.Cloud Tech in the rearview mirror, New Prague’s football team has turned its focus to the section playoffs.
New Prague High School’s boys’ soccer team saw its season come to a tough end last night, Tuesday, Oct. 24, with a 6-0 loss to Woodbury in the quarterfinal match of the Minnesota State High School League’s Class AAA state tournament.
Playing amidst a steady rainfall at Farmington High School, the No. 4-seeded Royals, 14-2-3 overall, scored three times in the first half and three more times in the second half. New Prague was the No. 5 seed in the tournament. The Trojans’ season ends with a 13-5-2 overall record.
Ramona "Monie" L. Hentges, age 70, of Shakopee, MN, passed away from a long battle with triple negative metastatic breast cancer, on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family.
Monie was born on June 30, 1953, in New Prague, MN, the daughter of Leonard and Christine (Wolf) Nytes. She married Michael M. Hentges on August 25, 1973, in Union Hill, MN.
