After a ceremony flag raising, Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason welcomes people to the new Le Sueur County Justice Center in Le Center. A large crowd showed up for tours of the new facility, which will house the Sheriff's Office, county jail, courtrooms and court administration and Emergency Operations. The City of New Prague, SEH Engineering and project contractors announced Friday that the detour route for the street construction project will change after the morning rush on Monday, August 12.
The intersection of Columbus Ave and 12th Street, which is being made into a roundabout, will be opened to traffic around 7 a.m. Monday.
A short time later, the intersection of Seventh Street NE (former County Road 37(and Columbus Ave. will be closed to traffic around mid-morning, for construction of another roundabout.

It was an early morning for about 70 youngsters and their guides as the Scott County Sheriff’s Office held its annual Youth Fishing Derby Monday, Aug. 5, at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park.
The event was first held in 1999, as a cat fishing derby on the Minnesota River. Due to the fluctuation of the river levels from year to year, it was decided to move the event permanently to Cedar Lake, taking advantage of the facilities at the park for the post-derby lunch and prize drawing.

Long-time Le Sueur County Veteran Service Director Jim Golgart informed the Le Sueur County Board his plans to retire.
Golgart, who started with the county in 2000, plans to retire as of June 5, 2020.
“After careful thought and consideration I have decided to retire from my position of the Director of Veteran Services for Le Sueur County,” Golgart said to the board from a written statement.

A group of New Prague Girl Scouts took a trip to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead in De Smet, SD, last month.

The float with the Lonsdale ambassadors will have some new faces when it rolls through the Lonsdale Community Days Grand Parade on Sunday, Aug. 10. A new Miss Lonsdale and court were crowned at the Ambassadors ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 3.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, the New Prague neighborhood of Fairway Drive celebrated its 10th year of holding a National Night Out party. Children could get a look inside a New Prague Police Department squad car, get stickers and temporary tattoos. There was also food and fun with a bounce house and an ice cream truck. The American Legion Legacy Run stopped at the Charles Borak Post 45 American Legion in New Prague the morning of Saturday, Aug. 3. The annual state-wide motorcycle run raises funds for the national American Legion Legacy Scholarship, which helps young people get a post-secondary education. During Saturday’s stop the New Prague and Montgomery American Legions each made donations. So far more than $17,000 has been raised during this year’s Legacy Run. About 25 motorcyclists were involved in Saturday’s benefit ride. Riders would also be stopping in St.

A semi truck tipped over around 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, on 10th Ave. NE (formerly Scott Co. Road 37) in New Prague, coming to rest on the sidewalk next to Roundbank. New Prague Police, North Ambulance, New Prague Fire Department and Scott County Sheriff's Office are on the scene, and the Minnesota State Patrol is en route. Firefighters pinched off a leak in the fuel line and were soaking up diesel fuel that had spilled. It appears the semi took out one utility box, but just missed a larger one and also just missed a fire hydrant at the intersection.

The intersection of 12th Street and Columbus Avenue NE, near New Prague High School, will remain closed through at least August 2 as workers construct a roundabout at the intersection. Above, removal of the street surface and curb and gutter took place on Thursday, July 25. Once work is done on this intersection, the intersection of Seventh Street (formerly County Road 37) and Columbus Ave. NE will be closed for about two weeks for construction of another roundabout.

The New Prague Area Historical Society has a new article in the Centennial Cabin as they now have an antique Bohemian spinning wheel that they acquired with help from the Prairie Quilters of the New Prague Area.
Dennis Dvorak of the historical society explained the handmade spinning wheel had belonged to Emil and Florence Holub. Their daughter Judy Holub Peterson contacted him about the device. “I reached out to the Prairie Quilters if they would help with donating it to the historical society,” said Dvorak. They agreed to help.

For years, Joe and Charlotte Kodada have worked behind the scenes of Lonsdale Community Days, however this year will be different because the life-long Lonsdale residents are this year’s parade grand marshals.
Earlier this month, the Kodadas received news from Lonsdale Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shanna Gutzke-Kupp. In her letter, the director said the couple was chosen because they have been an integral part of the community for years.

A four-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 21 and County Road 2 north of New Prague shortly before 4 p.m. closed traffic at the intersection. Among responding agencies were the Minnesota State Patrol, Scott County Sheriff's Office, New Prague and Jordan Police, New Prague Fire Department, two North Memorial ambulances, a Northfield Ambulance crew, and two medical helicopters, one from North Air and one from Mayo.
