Our heavenly Father graciously called Dale V. Schwartz, age 68 of Waterville out of this life to be with Him in heaven on August 12, 2023 at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville with the Reverend David Mumme officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Waterville.

A Kilkenny woman’s house was damaged but nobody injured when fire broke out inside the front porch Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 9.
Just after 3:30 p.m., Constance Weber noted the air-conditioner window unit inside her front porch at her house on Laurel Avenue in Kilkenny had overheated and was ablaze. Weber discovered the fire after she heard crackling coming from the air-conditioning unit. The fire had spread from the front porch and was spreading other rooms inside of the house, according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office.

Giles Arthur “Art” Abbe, age 97 of Waterville, passed away on the evening of Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.

Charmane Caroline (Roemhildt) Zimbrich, age 73, of Janesville, formerly of Waseca, died Monday, August 7, 2023, at Mayo Health System – Mankato.
Born November 8, 1949, in St. Peter, daughter of the late Dale and Gladys (Dehn) Roemhildt. Charmane attended schools in both Waterville and Elysian. She attended her senior year at the Waseca AG School, where she graduated, Class of 1967. She was a person with a heart of gold who enjoyed fishing, writing poems, listening to music, and playing cards and board games.

Norman Francis Knish, age 97, of Waterville, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca. 

Marlys Joan (Wisen) Krueger, age 89, of Waterville, Minnesota died Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center in Waseca.

As I do every year, I try to critique the new foods which will be served at the Minnesota State Fair, which is less than one month away.
Two weeks ago the fair announced the 34 official new foods and seven new food vendors for the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

The Minnesota BASS National Angling Tournaments have proved that local anglers are among the best in this area.
The Friday, July 21 Lake Washington Tournament featured the top three teams, all from the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown area.
The weigh-ins for this tournament were held at Westwood Marina Bar & Grill and the top three finishing teams caught more than eight pounds of bass.
Placing first was Myles and Ivan Pratt with five bass totalling 11.71 pounds.

National Night Out (Night to Unite) will be held Tuesday, August 1.
The 19th annual Elysian National Night Out will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Francis City Park.
There will be a free meal consisting of hot dogs, chips, and a drink, door prizes, bounce house, music by Crista Bohlmann, and Scoops Ice Cream. Elysian Fire Department, Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Posse, North Ambulance, and Elysian Rescue Squad will be on hand to answer questions. This Elysian Area Chamber sponsored event will be held at the Elysian Fire Hall if there is inclement weather.

Two wins last weekend has advanced the Waterville Indians amateur baseball team into a familiar spot… the Region 6C Tournament.
The Indians defeated Minnesota Lake (10-3) and Morrisown (6-1) to move into the 13-60 League Championship and secure one of four spots in the Region Playoff field.
Waterville will host Blue Earth Saturday, July 29 at 2 p.m. for the No. 1 seed and 13-60 League title. Blue Earth upset North Mankato (10-4) and Waseca (5-4) to advance to the league championship.

Carmen Irene Wessels, age 66, of Waterville passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Two runs in the bottom half of the 12th inning lifted the Morristown Morries amateur baseball team to a 9-8 win over Blue Earth in the 13-60 League finale for both teams Saturday, July 15.
The win moved the Morries into 3rd place in the 13-60 League American Division standings and help them avert a post-season play-in game Saturday, July 22.
Morristown will play Eagle Lake in the league quarterfinals. A win or a loss and the Morries will play Sunday either at Waterville or at home against Minnesota Lake or Lake Crystal. Game times are 2 p.m. at the high seed.

I know it has been a while since I have written, or duplicated, anything in this column space.
As we all know, it has been extremely busy the past month with city celebrations, which all had great turnouts!
With that being said, I have been presented the 12 commandments for seniors. Depending on who you ask, I am now a senior citizen at age 57. Others say it is 60 and yet others say it is 65. When I read these commandments, I realized I think I might qualify right now as a senior.
1. Talk to yourself. There are times you need an expert opinion.

Local Legionnaires attended their respective Minnesota State Conventions last weekend.
The Elysian Legion Auxiliary Unit 311 attended the 103rd American Legion Auxiliary Department Convention at Jackpot Junction in Morton. The Elysian Legion attended the 104th American Legion Post/SAL/Riders Department of Minnesota Convention, also at Jackpot Junction.

Gwyn B. Quiram, age 53 of Burnsville passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at Fairview Southdale Edina with her family at her side. 

He remembers the fear sweeping through his being in 2003 when he heard his wife had cancer. Two years later, Chris Smith heard a doctor direct those same words at him.
