The late Virginia Lucier Hoyt was given a heartfelt and rousing sendoff by 30 women who learned cheers from her, and eventually became friends. The brief ceremony came at the end of the funeral for Hoyt, or Miss Lucier as she was known for many years, on Thursday, Sept. 24, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague.
“Today we cheer for our Miss Lucier,” said Jean (Vanasek) Piazza. “She was our teacher, advisor, mentor, but most of all she was our friend. Our presence here today, along with the thoughts and prayers of those cheerleaders not able to be here, is our testament to the impact Miss Lucier had on our lives. She will always be a part of us. Thank you Miss Lucier. Rest in peace. Go Trojans!”
