Superintendent presenting levy information to groups
New Prague Area Schools Superintendent Andy Vollmuth is looking for sizable groups of people who want to know more about the school district’s request for additional funding he admits “is a big ask.”
His calendar is filling with presentations to groups. Last week, Vollmuth offered an unscheduled presentation of information on the proposed levy increase to a group of citizens in the Silver Sneakers program. He has presented information to the New Prague Chamber of Commerce and is willing to meet with other groups. All he asks is the group has enough people to make the presentation a worthwhile use of time and that the people consider the request.
Voters will have their say Nov. 7. Early voting has also begun.
Vollmuth updated school board members on the progress at its workshop Monday, Oct. 9. The district is asking voters to approve a $450 per student levy increase in each of the next 10 years, a request amounting to about $2 million annually. The tax impact on a house valued for taxation at $350,000 is just under $20 per month for the house, garage and one acre of ag land, an amount that will adjust with inflation.
