‘I can say I’ve played golf in December’ Weather permitting, NP gives members, patrons bonus golf

A couple weeks after the flags and cups were pulled for the season, Mother Nature gave the staff at New Prague Golf Club and area courses a rare opportunity at bonus rounds.
For the first time in over 20 years, the city reopened the course for golf in December. It saw about 31,000 rounds this season. With temps in the upper-40s and even low-50s last week, Kurt Ruehling opened the course to a shotgun start at noon Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7-8. The decision to open for a couple days was made after Ruehling consulted with the course’s superintendent, Jeff Pint. Figuring they couldn’t do any serious damage to the course by allowing people to play, the decision to open for a couple days was set.
With a little word-of-mouth advertising and putting the word of the bonus golf out via social media, the tee sheet for the two rounds filled in about three days, Ruehling said.
