When it comes to casual conversation, Kim Doyle is occasionally asked about her plans for retirement. The question grates, slightly, on her patience. After 35 years as a Catholic school principal, Doyle is not yet ready to write the next chapter in her life.
Doyle enjoys her job. She cherishes the chance to spend time amongst teachers and children excited to learn and expand their faith through education. Doyle isn’t exactly sure, yet, what the next chapter will include.
“I can’t see myself not doing something,” she said.
Doyle was recently honored for her 35 years of leadership and service as a Catholic school principal. She was one of the honored guests at a celebration of leaders in Catholic education. Doyle found out she was to be honored accidentally. She was trying to arrange attendance at the celebration as a guest. When she gave the staff person her name, she was told the archdiocese looked forward to honoring her.
The leadership banquet included the chance to be honored by Archbishop Bernard Hebda. While she was honored to meet the archbishop, Doyle was gratified to be honored by her colleagues, people who can relate to the challenges a principal deals with each day.
“That was the greatest honor,” she said.
