Harold L. Bloomer, age 93, of Morristown, died on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at District One Hospital, Faribault.
Funeral services will be held at Peace United Methodist Church, Morristown on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10 a.m with the Reverend Eldon Eklund, officiating. Interment and military rites by American Legion, Post 149 will be at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown.
Visitation will be at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Thursday, November 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. and also at church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Leilani “Lani” Williamson, age 58 of Waseca, died on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Central Health Care in LeCenter.

Charles E. “Chuck” Kajer, age 60, of New Prague, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital New Prague.  Chuck was born on October 16, 1959 in St. Paul and was lovingly welcomed by his parents Ronald G. and Helen D. (Kes) Kajer.  He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, graduated from New Prague High School, attained his B.A. from St. John’s University, and an associate degree from Winona State College.  He married the love of his life, Jennifer “Jenny” A. Settergren on June 16, 1984 at St.

Our hearts are heavy today as we report that our Managing Editor, Chuck Kajer, passed away suddenly last night. We will miss our “teammate” at The Times… his wit, his thoughtfulness and his amazing ability to recall sports trivia! Minneota, the No. 1 seed in the Class A State Volleyball Tournament, lived up to their seeding as they defeated the No. 2 seed, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 in the State Championship match played Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Vikings were the 2018 Class A State Champions, defeating Medford in the title match. Medford defeated Fosston for third place. The WEM volleyball team advanced to its second Class A State Championship Friday, Nov. 8 after defeating Medford 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 in the State Semifinals. The Bucs (34-2) will face No. 1 seed Minneota (32-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Minneota defeated Fosston in four sets in the other State Semifinal. WEM has never lost a State tournament game. They defeated three straight opponents in 2015 to win the Class A State Championship. Check out the Nov.

The WEM volleyball team is one step closer to their second Class A State Volleyball Championship after sweeping Henning (25-11, 25-21, 25-18) in the State Quarterfinals Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Bucs will play Medford Friday at 3 p.m. in the Class A State Semifinals. WEM has defeated Medford three times this season. Medford swept Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. Fosston and Minneota will play in the other semifinal Friday, with the winners of the Friday matches playing at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 for the State Title.

The WEM volleyball team ended the three-year reign of Mayer Lutheran as the top team in Class A Section 2 after downing the Crusaders in five sets Saturday, Nov. 2 at Mankato East High School. The Bucs downed Mayer Lutheran by scores of 20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-19, and 15-13 in the championship match. The Class A State Tournament starts Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. This will be the second State appearance for the Bucs. In 2015 they claimed the Class A State Championship. The Bucs (32-2) received the No. 2 seed and will plat at 3 p.m.

For the fifth straight season, WEM will face Mayer Lutheran for the Section 2A Volleyball Championship. The two teams each won their respective Sub-Section title Thursday, Oct. 31. WEM defeated Alden-Conger 25-20, 25-11, and 25-14. Mayer Lutheran defeated BOLD 25-20, 25-15, and 25-20.The Bucs and Crusaders will face off Saturday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at Mankato East High School in the Section 2A Championship match. In 2015, WEM defeated the Crusaders on their way to a Class A State Championship. The next three years Mayer Lutheran defeated the Bucs for the Section Championship.

Residents who live on the German-Jefferson Lakes and Lake Emily in Le Sueur County voiced their displeasure at a proposed ordinance which would have required sewer inspections every 3-5 years.
The Le Sueur County Board held a public hearing Tuesday, Oct. 22 to discuss the ordinance. More than two dozen individuals were in attendance and nearly a dozen commented during the hearing.
It was quite apparent these individuals were not in favor of the ordinance. A similar ordinance passed for the lakes of Francis, Rays, Sakatah, and Tetonka in the Waterville/Elysian area.

Phil passed away peacefully on October 14, 2019 at home with his daughter and wife on either side holding him. He fought a courageous 3-year battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 28, 1957 in Minneapolis, MN. He was the son of Robert and Marjorie Spurgin growing up in Bloomington, MN. He is survived by his loving wife Lynette, daughter Catherine (fiancé Adam) Spurgin, step sons Branden (Emily) Luther, Brent (Katie) Luther, and Brandt (girlfriend Jess) Luther and 2 grandchildren, Zaiden and Aylin Luther.

The WEM volleyball team is within two games of their second Class A State Tournament appearance. The Bucs defeated St. Clair 25-4, 25-5, and 25-11 in the South Sub-Section semifinal Tuesday, Oct. 29 at St. Peter. The Bucs (30-2 overall) will play Alden-Conger (19-5) in the Sub-Section Championship Thursday, Oct. 31 at Mankato East High School, starting at 6 p.m. The winner will face either Mayer Lutheran or BOLD for the Section 2A Championship Saturday, Nov. 2 at Mankato East at 6 p.m.

Gereldene (“Geri”) Phyllis Bakken was the third of six children born to Erick and Grace Schultz on Nov. 3, 1924 in Willow City, ND. In 1941 at the age of 17 she went to Washington DC, where she worked as a secretary in the Pentagon building. She attended Minot State Teacher’s College and taught school for a few years after returning to North Dakota. Geri married Robert Bakken in 1951 and they had four children together. Geri had a passion for reading, was an accomplished pianist, and loved playing bridge.
