It was quite a weekend for Travis Kimbro.
Travis and his wife Jillian and their two children recently moved to Delano from Waterville. Last week their home located just west of Waterville was sold.
Kimbro and his fishing partner Jared LaFrance won the fishing derby Saturday, Sept. 16 on Lake Washington and the duo claimed $2,000 for their efforts.
The following day the inaugural Winner Takes All Bass Brawl was held in Waterville on Lake Tetonka and Lake Sakatah, with the winner claiming the lone prize of $10,000.
This tournament was a singles event and only 30 boats were registered, with 29 taking part in the contest which ran from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.
Kimbro again came out on top winning the bass tourney with five fish totalling 20.32 pounds. Second place went to Matt Conroy of Elysian with five fish totalling 18.65 pounds. Nate Wenner of St. Peter claimed third place with 18.34 pounds of bass.
Not only did Kimbro win the event, claiming $9,650 for his efforts he also reeled in the largest fish of 5.36 pounds. All of his fish were in the four to five pound range.
Kimbro said he caught only about 10-12 fish during the eight hours, with his first fish being reeled in around 7:45 a.m. He figured around noon he captured the largest bass. Three of his five fish turned in were caught in the same location on Lake Tetonka.
Approximately a dozen of the 29 competitors weighed in their catch, with those individuals weighing in between 12 and 15 pounds. After Kimbro weighed in only a couple anglers followed. Many declined weighing in after Kimbro’s large bag of fish were weighed.
Chris Hauer, owner of Howie’s Southern Bass Tour, was the emcee and weighed in the fish. Elysian Agency - Jared LaFrance, along with Blackfish Gear, helped sponsor the event. $350 was the entry fee per angler.
Kimbro received $500 for his largest fish. Conroy received a $400 Blackfish Gear Certificate and Wenner received a $250 certificate for placing second and third, respectively.
