NPHS provides a ‘Clue’ into this murder-mystery play

Who needs a “Clue”? There will be plenty of hints dropped by New Prague High School students as they perform the play “Clue - High School Edition.” It will be presented Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, at 7 p.m. both evenings and Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m.
“Clue” is a farce comedy meets murder mystery, based on the 1985 Paramount movie inspired by the Hasbro board game. The story follows six guests who have met at a remote mansion for an unusual dinner party. When the host, Mr. Boddy, is found dead, the six become suspects. Leading the investigation is the British butler, Wadsworth. From there, it is a race to find who committed the murder, in which room and with what.
Director Matt Stensrud has been talking about doing the play since last summer. “I saw it last year at the Orpheum (Theatre) and I loved it,” he said, adding he grew up watching the movie and he loved that version.
“It’s another great ensemble show,” Stensrud said. He wanted a show where a large cast can shine. “Everyone can improve their acting ability,” said Stensrud. All of the young actors get to spend 90 minutes on stage, Stensrud said. “It’s so enjoyable. Every rehearsal has had me laughing,” he said. About the only stress is how there are changes to six different rooms through the play. “That technical part is the hardest aspect,” Stensrud said.
