In a 4 to 3 vote on Tuesday, April 7, Lonnie Seifert was selected by the Tri-City United School Board as the district's next superintendent.

Seifert was among three finalists for the position being vacated by retiring TCU Superintendent Teri Preisler at the end of June.

The finalists, who also included Lisa Edwards and Carmen Daniels-Strahan, completed a second round of interviews during the afternoon. The interviews included questions by the school board and other stakeholders, including staff and community members.

During final deliberations, the school board members spent just over two hours discussing the strengths and opportunities of growth for all three candidates.

The vote eventually led to a roll call vote dividing the board between Seifert and Daniels-Strahan.
Seifert received yes votes from Ashley Rosival, Krista Goettl, Dale Buss, and Josh Beulke. Voting no were Kevin Huber, Michelle Borchardt, and Marsha Franek.

Upon background check, negotiations, and board approval of his contract, Seifert will begin as TCU's superintendent on July 1.

Seifert's hiring marks his return to the local school district. He has been the superintendent of the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop School District since July, 2018. He was also an assistant principal and principal at New Prague Schools, an administrator for the Rocori School District, and taught, coached and was Activities Director at Montgomery-Lonsdale Schools.

Full coverage of the deliberations and final decision will be in the print edition of the Montgomery Messenger on April 16.
