DRS has new leader

Midway through the DRS Amateur Baseball League season, there is a new leader.

St. Patrick, winner of five straight games, has risen to the top of the standings with a 6-2 record. Webster, 4-1 in their last five games, moves into second place with a 6-4 record. Montgomery, the leader for much of the early season, has dropped to third place with a 7-5 record.

Faribault and Union Hill, winners of four of their last five, are tied for fourth with 5-4 records. The remaining teams include New Prague (4-4), St. Benedict (4-5), Lonsdale (4-6), Veseli (2-6), Prior Lake (3-8), and Shakopee (1-8).

In games played Wednesday, June 8, New Market defeated Prior Lake, 7-1. Elko defeated Webster, 5-0. Union Hill downed Montgomery, 9-1. In this game, Conrad Masberg earned the win for the Bulldogs, allowing one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Danny Bekius had three hits and two RBI. Nate Lee added two hits. Ted Christian started for the Mallards and went four innings, allowing seven runs, three earned, on only three hits. Cole Pint had two hits including a double for Montgomery.

In games played Friday night, Faribault edged Union Hill, 4-3. St. Patrick shutout Prior Lake, 7-0. In this game, Trevor Divinski went eight innings, giving up only four hits and striking out eight. Ryan Friedges scored three runs and had two hits, including a home run. Seth Ambroz also had a pair of hits.

Sunday, June 12 was a busy day, with four league games. Union Hill defeated Shakopee, 12-6. Faribault defeated Lonsdale, 8-5. Webster shutout St. Benedict, 8-0. St. Patrick defeated Montgomery, 16-1 in eight innings. In a non-league game, Northfield edged Elko, 14-13.

Webster pitcher Peter Tveite was fantastic, allowing only two hits and striking out a career-high 19 batters in the shutout of St. Bens. He also went 3-for-5 at the plate. Jake Ekness, Max Drexl, and Jake Bellile each added two hits.

Jack Friedges had six RBIs and three hits for the Irish in their win over the Mallards. Jack Friedges, Kal Brohmer, and Matt Ambroz also had three hits each. Ambroz and both Friedges hit home runs. Collin Denk started and pitched 5 2/3 innings, striking out six. Zak Endres and Jack Ulschmid each struck out two in relief. Ryan Iverson and Johnny Krocak had the two hits for Montgomery.

Charlie Otteson pitched 6 2/3 innings for Union Hill and recorded his DRS win for Union Hill. Nate Lee and Nathan Berg hit home runs for the Bulldogs.

Faribault scored three runs in the ninth inning to pull out the win against Lonsdale. Ross Beumer was 2-for-5 with a home run, double, and three RBI for the Aces. Devin Vosejpka also collected two hits.
