All DRS baseball teams have at least one win

Through the third weekend of play in the DRS Amateur Baseball League, every team has recorded at least one victory.

The Montgomery Mallards continue to hold the league lead with a 5-1 record. They were defeated by Elko, 11-3, Friday, May 20. Sunday, May 22 the Mallards downed St. Benedict, 7-1.

Prior Lake (3-3 overall), St. Benedict (2-2), New Prague (2-2), and Lonsdale (2-3) are battling to catch Montgomery. Prior Lake edged New Prague, 6-5, Thursday, May 19 in 12 innings. Mudcats pitcher Ben Kelsey threw 212 pitches. Prior Lake scored an unearned run in the 12th inning to pick up their third DRS win.

Bear Blaney had four hits and Ben Morrison and Kelsey each had two hits for the Mudcats. James Fuerniss had three hits including a double, and Jacob Deutsch added two hits including a triple. Collin Dorzinski had an RBI double in the 10th to keep the game going. Fuerniss gave up two runs in six innings. Matt Zweber and Frank Ruzicka pitched well in relief. Beau Plaisance was charged with the loss.

The Orioles rebounded for a 14-4, 7 inning win Sunday, May 22 over Shakopee. TJ Bergland got the win and Wes Kemming pitched two scoreless innings. Bryce Novak had three hits, four RBI, and a two-run homer. Fuerniss had four hits and four RBIs. Jacob Mader had three hits and Jacob Deutsch added two hits. Jeff Hohenstein had a two-run triple for the Coyotes.

In other games Friday, May 20, St. Benedict defeated Veseli, 13-5 and Shakopee edged Lonsdale for their first win, 6-5. Marty Kalina was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Zach Brendan was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Aces.

Six games were played Sunday, May 22. New Market defeated Veseli, 8-1. Elko edged Union Hill, 6-5, Lonsdale collected 16 hits in a 12-2, 7 inning win over Prior Lake. Faribault defeated St. Patrick, 6-3, for their first win.

Ted Christian pitched a solid seven innings for the Mallards in their win over St. Bens. Cole Pint and Ryan Iverson each hit doubles for Montgomery. Derek Albers hit a double for St. Bens.

Zach Breeden, Jordan Yetzer, and Jack Skluzacek each hit home runs in the Aces win over the Mudcats. Ben Morrison was 3-for-3 for Prior Lake.

The second level in the DRS Standings has St. Patrick, Union Hill, and Faribault with 1-2 records, Webster is 1-3, and Veseli and Shakopee are 1-4.
