A pair of wins last week has moved the Minnesota River boys hockey team into a tie for third place in the Big South Conference standings.
The Bulldogs defeated Windom Area, 3-2, Monday, Feb. 13 and defeated Fairmont/Martin County West, 5-1, Thursday, Feb. 16. The wins improved their record to 9-7 in the conference which is tied with Marshall and Windom Area.
Goaltender Ayden Christ had a good week, stopping 22-of-24 shots against Windom Area and 24-of-25 against the Cardinals.
The Minnesota River skaters peppered their two opponents with 33 shots Monday and 53 on Thursday.
In the win over Windom Area, Minnesota River scored single goals in each of the three periods.
Connor Bjorling scored his first goal of the year on an assist from Brooks Riecks, his seventh.
Ethan Hathaway scored his seventh goal of the year on an assist by Travis Kotek, his ninth. This was a power play goal.
Hathaway scored a short handed goal in the third period. It was his sixth of the season.
Kotek scored three points and Kaden Trodahl scored two points in the win over the Cardinals.
Kotek scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season in the first period, both on assists from Trodahl, his sixth and seventh of the season.
Also scoring in the first period was Bjorling, his second, on assists from Talen Schwandt, his second, Hathaway, his fifth.
