Heading into the Gopher State tournament in Waconia with momentum, New Prague found the going tough at the weekend competition.
New Prague entered the tournament having won four of its previous five games.
NP won its opening game of the tournament Friday, July 11, but dropped its next two games Saturday – one in walk-off fashion and the other a sound thumping. Details from Sunday’s games against St. Michael Gold and Eastview and upcoming games were not available when The New Prague Times went to press. New Prague 7, Yankton, S.D. 1 New Prague blew the game open with two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth. NP outhit Yankton, 10-3, and played solid defense, committing just one faux pas.
Waconia 13, New Prague 12 NP built a 7-4 lead after four innings but couldn’t hold off the hard-charging host Waconia team in a slugfest Saturday, July 12.
New Prague rallied with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh for a 12-5 advantage. Waconia answered with eight runs in its last at-bat for a walk-off win. New Prague outhit Waconia, 13-7.
Creighton Prep 12, New Prague 0 New Prague struggled against Creighton Prep Saturday. With just three hits and five errors, CP blew the game open with nine runs in the third inning.
