Kolacky eating contest has new king
The annual Kolacky Days Eating Contest has a new winner. Out of 13 adults competing for the medal and bragging rights at the 83rd annual festival, Chuck Smisek, originally from Lonsdale, now of Dodge Center, was the first competitor to finish eating six prune kolackies.
Smisek said he’s been eating kolackies since he could crawl. When he entered the contest for the first time this year, he said he was determined to win, no matter what.
He graduated from Montgomery-Lonsdale High School in 1993, served 21 years in the military, and said he entered the contest to show his support to the community. He is pictured with the new Kolacky Days royalty (from left) Miss Congeniality and Second Princess Amanda Way, First Princess Rebecca Simon and Queen Anna Franek.
